To Elsie Love Fran

The days are getting fewer and it is exactly five days until I journey to Dallas and get to see Ellie's art show. It is really exciting and I have been waiting for this for a year. Elsie Dinsmore is oh so talented and I cannot WAIT to see all her work together.

Shiela Hicks

Yesterday, in my Fibers class, we began to spin our own yarn! It is the coolest process and is so therapeutic. In our next project we are weaving and using our hand-spun yarns. In about two weeks I must spin 220 yards of yarn and create a small tapestry. I was a little freaked out about how much time that will be, but after seeing Shiela Hicks works I am very very very excited. 15 yards of yarn completed. 205 yards and one tapestry to go.

Procrastination Got The Best Of Me

This has absolutely nothing to do with this post. It is just making me feel better.

I have known about my Harry Potter speech for about three weeks now. In about an hour I will be saying this said speech in front of my COMM--105 class. It seems like just a minor part of my life. You may ask, will I remember this speech in my years to come? You would answer, no, why would I? I would answer, Of course. This is the day that I might fail. Although I have known about his speech for three weeks, I didn't begin to memorize this until one o'clock last night. I had exactly two hours of sleep and then woke up at 4:30 AM- not because I was practicing, but because I was so nervous. Alright, I am done now. In one hour, I will be saying a speech that I will remember for the rest of my life!

WHEN I SAY HARRY YOU SAY POTTER!
HARRY! (me)
POTTER! (you)
(this is my opening line)

(just kidding, someone once said that would be embarrassing...WHOMP WHOMP)

Come One, Come ALL.

join me

This is one of the greatest things that I have seen in a long long time. I have watched the 2011 touring process with great excitement and then it dawned on me- I CAN DO THIS TOO AND SO CAN YOU. You sign up for 25 dollars and you get a sketchbook to do WHATEVER you want with (you really pick a theme, but still.) WHATEVER you want with. In February, you send your books in and they go on a world tour for the year 2012. After they have toured, they make it to the Brooklyn Art Library where they find their home. They stay there in the library's permanent collection and can be checked out for years and years to come. I am giddy about this and cannot wait to travel to Brooklyn next year to spend a few days and flip through all the amazing sketchbooks. Don't worry though, the sketchbooks do go on a WORLD tour.

"it's like a concert tour, but with sketchbooks."

Nathaniel Lancaster

After visiting the McColl Center for Visual Art this past weekend, I have not been able to quit thinking about Nathaniel Lancaster's work. He was one of many artists in the center's residency program. He gave us some good advice about being artists. Thank you Nathaniel Lancaster.

Letters To A Young Poet

"If your daily life seems poor, do not blame it; blame yourself, tell yourself that you are not poet enough to call forth its riches; for to the creator there is no poverty and no poor indifferent place...Therefore, my dear sir, I know no advice for you save this: to go into yourself and test the deeps in which your life takes rise; at its source you will find the answer to the question whether you must create."

from my drawing sketchbook
whether studying the masters, anatomy, human figure, etc., my love for short duration gestures and sketches has grown.

Being a Baby Feels So Good

In my first intro to fibers class, we took baby stitching steps. Let the games begin.
