"For about the last eight years, I've been experiencing a sporadically recurring dream about the end of the world. Animals stampeding and buildings falling into dust around me. I wake up in a panic and with a heavy sense of inevitability.

Although I'm not trying to recreate this dream in my work, I think that like my dream, my paintings reflect my view of the nervous state of affairs the world seems to be in. Inspired by natural and unnatural disasters, personal fiascos and the never-ending stream of bad news coming in from the media, the world inside my paintings has been turned (sometimes literally) upside down. The ground has crumbled underneath them and the sky is falling. In the wake of this, my created world bands together to come up with coping plans. This lets me explore ideas of anxiety and vulnerability, community, and the illusions of safety. I am fascinated by the resilience of life. Every disaster is followed by rebirth, where we try to cobble together a plan b. out of what remains. My paintings celebrate this fascination and my love of the urban landscape and it's creatures."

Lucky Day

Today is my lucky day!

(these are the two things that I purchased today. I am really happy I got them)

Today was the day that I got up the courage to finally pay my parking tickets. One ticket was a measly 15 dollar ticket that had snowballed into a 44 dollar ticket due to the delayed payment. oops. I then had a 50 dollar ticket for an expired registration sticker. Its all good. I act surprised that the one ticket had snowballed and then I sweet talked my way out of BOTH tickets. That is 94 dollars that stays in my pocket.

A Few Weeks Before Me

Hey

I am back from Dallas and am currently sitting in my bed at 3:19 PM on this Wednesday afternoon. I thought I was going to be insanely busy this week, but it has been a pleasant surprise to have many of my dead lines pushed back. Honestly, I feel like I haven't stopped working since I got to Savannah in September. I love it here, but it is a WHOLE lot of work! So here's the deal. I have three and a half weeks until I begin the journey to Dallas again, but this time I get to stay for 3 plus months! I am very excited for this time to learn, work, and to take a break. What will I be doing this summer you may ask??? I will be traveling to Edinburgh, Scotland to visit my sister, Mary Claire, and see what her life has looked like this past year. After that, I will be shadowing a family friend, Rhonda Grubbs, of Three Graces Interiors. I cannot wait for this opportunity to follow her around, work on various projects, and get to run errands for her at the Design Center! Besides this, I will be creating art. I am going to sell old stuff as well as work on new things as well! This summer looks like I will be learning a lot, but it is all things that I enjoy!

Like I said, I do have three and a half more weeks left. The end is near. For now, I am going to enjoy the work before me and the town of Savannah (my oyster).
